Flamangoes

"Mom? Why can I not have any flamangoes?"

You may have noticed the box of Ding Dongs in the background. Debra dropped those off on Sunday. She says with Seven-Up they're a cure for pneumonia and a variety of other ailments. Since she's a nurse now I believe every word she tells me. Which is why I ate the whole box.

Let's Talk About Something Else....

Easter Brunch

Waiting for the hunt.

Let's do this.

I took this next series of pictures to illustrate how far Peyton has come since last year's fear of the Easter Bunny. I think she regressed a bit. In all honesty, I think she didn't care whether she got any eggs or not. All of her energy was spent making sure the Easter Bunny didn't come near us.

Terror

Libby, on the other hand, rocked her hunt. Picked up two eggs with golden tickets. Here she's running for her prizes.

So Many Choices

Overheard as the girls play together with their dollhouse....

Libby: You want a two egg knuckle sandwich for breakfast, or do you want nothin' for breakfast? Or do you just want strawberries?

Peyton: I'll have the strawberries.

Breathing Deep and Finding Perspective

How cute is she?

Remember how I said I'd quit posting about my health? Yeah, I totally lied about that. I went back to see the nurse at our district clinic on Monday mostly because a doctor friend of mine suggested that maybe I don't have asthma, but instead, whooping cough. It helped that I was all kinds of wheezy for that appointment, so the nurse (who is my personal hero of the moment) was very interested in getting to the bottom of all of this. After another breathing treatment (which seemed to make things worse), swabbing my nose for whooping cough, taking blood and going for chest x-rays she called to tell me I have pneumonia, and to sleep for the next week. Well, well. Happy Birthday to me. Now, I think we might be gettin' somewhere. For now, I'm on another stair ride and on day 2 of 14 of a superbiotic that makes me ultra sensitive to the sun apparently, because my skin now has a healthy glow like I've been laying by the pool for a week. Nice little side effect.

I did go to work this morning just to drop off notes for my sub and make sure the place wasn't overthrown yet. Turns out I'm totally replaceable there. I can leave plans and another qualified individual can carry them out. Good to know. Good perspective for me, because lately I haven't been my best at work or at home. This morning though, I took two deep breaths on my inhaler and didn't even cough. Progress.

Look Ma!

We spent some time in the sun today. I'm not the only one who thought it was awesome.

Warning: Self Indulgent Rant Ahead

You know that scene from Sixteen Candles? The one where Molly Ringwald's character comes home from school to find two sets of grandparents occupying her and her brother's bedrooms? And when she asks how they're doing, she gets a long rant about all of their medical problems and then her grandmother feels her up? Well, that's what's about to happen here, though I promise to keep my hands to myself. If you're not interested in grandpa's hernia you might just forgo reading this post.....

What do you blog about when the blog has sat dormant for more than two weeks? There are pictures to post from Easter and few days of glorious sunshine. The girls have gone horseback riding. Grandparents have come and gone. The Dovers got a new puppy. Bebo got her hair back, but then suffered the loss of her mom and their beloved lab Buddy, which makes hair seem so insignificant. I think of sitting down to write and since there's too much to write, and it's all so overwhelming, I just look for a distraction instead.

At the moment the girls are loving a quiet morning at home to play, by themselves and sometimes with each other. They love to play school, house, babies, puzzles, draw, color and every once in awhile one of them will dogpile Grunny and talk sweetly to him. They have a new fascination with science (thank you Pinterest) and have asked what kind of science experiment we can try this morning.

I've ignored my blog lately mostly because I've spent the last few weeks trying to catch my breath. Literally. A week ago I was diagnosed with asthma. This was a welcome diagnosis, not because I want to have asthma, but I've been trying to figure out forever why I am sick all the time. I'm not sooooooo sick. But when I'm sick, I'm sick for soooooo long. In this case, with the exception of one glorious week on steroids, I've been sick with colds, sinus infections and breathing issues, Conjunctivitis (that's Pink Eye for you non-medical peeps) and a nasty cough since January. January. JANUARY. I can actually pinpoint the day. I was at a math conference and my nose swelled shut. It's been downhill since.

Anyway, I insisted on another round of allergy testing even though my allergist said, "I don't think you're allergic to anything, but I'll test you again if it'll make you happy." I said, "Yes, it'll make me happy." Then, and this is why I like my allergist, when I wasn't allergic to anything again, he never said, "I told you so." Instead, he said said, "Okay, let's try something else." That something else turned up asthma. Which, I guess, explains why over Spring Break in Bend I ended up at Immediate Care breathing through a nebulizer. I was sure it was an allergy to juniper. And why a week later, I was back at Urgent Care in Bend for antibiotics. Antibiotics that cleared up my red puffy eyes, but didn't touch my cough.

So, maybe, maybe I'm finally on to something. Here's hopin'....

On another note, in an effort to do away with things that aren't working in my life, I chopped my hair off this week. I didn't, but Corey did. I was looking for an easier do, inspired by some celebrities that make looking good look effortless (curse you Halle Berry). The bad news.... it's not any easier. The good news..... It dries faster, I like it, it's not any harder, and one of my students told me I look ten years younger. I hugged her and told her she's my favorite. So there you go. I'll take it.

Next up.... things that have nothing to do with my health. Promise.

Spring Break 2012

It was glorious, but it's over. I worked a short day without students yesterday, and today we were back on for regularly scheduled learning. Yesterday's bonus was clear skies and 66 degrees. When I got home Shane and Tyler were watching the girls play in the driveway. I laid down on the pavement and soaked up a few minutes of sun. I could go for a little more of that. We rode bikes and then had dinner with the Nelson/Andersons. Here's our week together....

Two Wheelin'

Libby gets glam while we let Peyton sleep a bit in the back seat. There's sunlight coming through the window in this picture, which is weird. I have no recollection of such an event.

Snuggles with Aunt Juju.

Kona

Ridin' Circles

Movies and chocolate. Thank you Aunt Susan and Uncle Kevin!

I took the girls to my classroom on Friday so I could get a few things done, and they could burn some energy in the gym. We started with Mary Poppins on the big screen and finished with bikes and scooters in the gym.

"Mom, take my picture and put it on Pinterest!" Oh my. I created this.

They played like this forever. We turned off the t.v. and I told them it was time to get creative. Pick something and do it. Color, draw, build, whatever. What better skill is there than being able to entertain yourself, right?

It rained here. A lot. Did I mention how much I love the sun?

Libby's started to show some interest in numbers, so I printed her a blank 100 chart. She surprised me, and I may have gotten a little pushy giddy over the whole thing. Their spongy little brains just amaze me. She asked about her numbers tonight and I was all, "Yeah, whatever. Only if you want to." She didn't.

Guess who has a birthday this week?

Libby got a scrapbook for her birthday and has been wanting me to print pictures for it. I finally did on our snow days before vacation. Then, I took Libby to Michael's to pick out a book for Peyton.

Peyton sleeps with her book in her bed.
